DALLAS MAYOR'S INTERN FELLOWS PROGRAM

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

SPONSOR AN INTERN FELLOW!

Provide a life-changing experience to a Dallas public high school student and invest in Dallas’ future workforce by sponsoring an intern fellow at your workplace or a local nonprofit this summer.

Educators agree – one of the most powerful ways for students to make the connection between a college education and great career is to gain exposure to a professional workplace. The Dallas Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program has become a national model for its pioneering work in providing paid summer internships to eligible Dallas public high school students, many who will be the first in their families to attend college.

Since its founding, the program has been endorsed by Dallas mayors and City Council members, Dallas ISD, Richardson ISD and public charter school leaders, plus Fortune 100 companies, successful small businesses and top nonprofits.

Employers widely praise the program. Intern fellows – who come in well-trained and motivated -- are providing tremendous value and injecting a young, fresh perspective into the workplace. So impressed are employers, they often hire these young people to work through their high school years and during college breaks.

Employers have several options for participating in this powerful program:

  • Sponsor an intern fellow (or several) at your workplace.

Businesses and organizations of every size – from small firms and mid-sized businesses to corporate headquarters – are encouraged to provide a paid internship for at least one intern fellow from June 10 to August 2, 2019. Internships, which may run 20 to 40 hours per week and pay a minimum of $10 per hour, should provide a real-life experience in the workplace where the student performs meaningful work assignments, shadows executives, observes company operations, and has personal contact with managers and executives regarding future career avenues in the industry.

  • Sponsor an intern fellow (or several) at a nonprofit.

Businesses and organizations also can underwrite an intern fellow to work at a participating local nonprofit from June 10 to August 2, 2019. This is a wonderful option for organizations unable to host an intern fellow at their place of business or for those who would also like to support a local nonprofit. Businesses and organizations can even choose the nonprofit, if they like from a list of over 100 MIFP participating nonprofits.

  • Become a Program Sponsor.

To provide additional support of the internship program, there are several Program Sponsorships available. Currently the program is looking for sponsors to underwrite work-readiness trainings, intern mentoring and special student enrichment programs. Program Sponsorships begin at $5,000.

For more information on sponsoring an intern or becoming a program sponsor, please contact Angela Shellene with The Reeds PRC, ashellene@thereedsprc.com or 214-871-0783.
